Prepare for all four parts of the IELTS test

'Understanding IELTS' is a complete guide to IELTS preparation with advice, strategies and practice for all four parts of the test. It is made up of four smaller courses, each covering one part of the IELTS test:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Listening
  • Speaking.

During each of the courses, we'll go through:

  • a description of that part of the test and what you have to do to achieve a good band score
  • the assessment criteria so that you know what your examiner is looking for
  • exam techniques to use on the day to help you tackle all types of test questions
  • preparation tips and strategies help you improve and get the score you need 
  • practice tests to make sure you are confident on your test day.

Since each IELTS test section has it's own challenges, we'll share some specifics on how you can overcome them. 

Reading

For this section, we'll focus on:

  • techniques like skimming and scanning to improve your test reading speed
  • reading about unfamiliar topics in English
  • improving your vocabulary and dealing with unknown words
  • coping with time pressure.

Writing

For this section, we'll focus on:

  • understanding and describing charts and data
  • writing about trends
  • planning an essay
  • the grammar and vocabulary you need.

Listening

For this section, we'll focus on:

  • listening test techniques
  • widening your listening range
  • staying focused when you listen
  • listening to conversations in English.

Speaking

For this section, we'll focus on:

  • how to give full and fluent answers to the examiner’s questions
  • how to improve your confidence when speaking English
  • planning a short talk in English
  • finding enough to say
  • improving your pronunciation
  • the grammar you need for the test.

Course duration

The course is extremely flexible and will only take up to three hours of your time per week. Each of the four courses lasts for three weeks, for the total of 12 weeks.

Keep in mind that you can finish sooner if you invest more than the three hours per week.
