PlayUK, the regional festival of new digital media

This edition of PlayUK will cover a number of exciting programme segments which introduce new digital products from the UK and the Western Balkans, including the Living Room of the Future workshop designed by the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology (FACT) which explores the topic of the future of broadcasting. Apply by 21 October and you may win the opportunity to join the festival and the workshop as a participant and gain insights into ground-breaking ways of thinking about digital innovation.

If you are involved in any creative field, from filmmaking and mobile development to programming and IT – particularly the Internet of Things or IoT – and if you are fluent in English and come from the Western Balkans, apply now to have the chance to expand your knowledge by working alongside experts from the UK and the region.

Thirty most successful applicants will have the opportunity to take part in the two-day workshop (2 – 4 November) and be exposed to the world of Object-Based Media (OBM) while engaged in a deep dive into creating new kinds of content that transform the home into an immersive, engaged and shareable experience. You will learn how to exploit the Databox platform to create immersive experiences incorporating IoT devices situated in the home and drive adaptation of Object-Based Media to enhance audience engagement. You will gain valuable knowledge of new ways of thinking about broadcasting, the Internet of Things, privacy and data.

THE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS

The panel consisting of representatives of the BBC, FACT and the British Council will choose up to 30 workshop participants – innovative creatives with a proven track record of successfully developed projects in film, visual art installations, games and the IoT. An additional 20 applicants will be selected to attend other festival workshops and events.Travel, accommodation and meals related to the workshop participation will be covered. Successful applicants will be notified by email by Wednesday, 23 October.

PlayUK is a Western Balkans arts platform that aims to support and develop the audio-visual sector in the region. Through creating connections between professionals from the UK and WB countries, this platform supports knowledge and skills transfer in the areas of virtual reality, augmented reality, visual effects and animation, creating a unique bridge between creatives and the ICT sector. Other programme highlights in Skopje will include an interactive digital showcase introducing the latest and greatest in the field of VR and AR installations, video games, mobile apps and more, as well as a daily music programme run by DJs from across the Western Balkans and the UK.
